Request High Levels of Funding for Beach Restoration

Save Oceanside Sand continues to partner and collaborate with the City of Oceanside to restore shoreline resilience to our city beaches through sustainable beach nourishment and retention projects. Without proper committed and recurring funding, this goal is clearly in jeopardy. By failing to allocate adequate recurring funding and support for coastal management and coastal resilience projects, we risk losing the pilot project (as well as other key coastal projects).

Email your city leaders and request they only approve a FY ’24-25 and recurring year budget that has a properly prioritized and high level of funding of the Beach Restoration fund. This funding not only shows Oceanside’s commitment to restoring resilience to our shores but provides Oceanside the ability to grow capacity to manage, plan and execute projects.

🌊Retention Saves Replenishment🏄🏼

Winter has certainly arrived with a cold spell hitting us a few weeks ago, along with a major surf swell and a king tide to boot! While our infrastructure survived relatively unscathed, our beaches showed significant cobble and sediment movement out and along the coast.

After over 80 years of sand nourishment events with no beaches to show for it, it is time to change. Oceanside is doing just that with an innovative approach of sand nourishment and sand retention.

The momentum continues and we need all hands on deck to continue the movement forward, as it’s clear that retention saves replenishment!

👋🏼 Hello 2024! 🥳

The strength of SOS lies within our engaged and involved team!
Your support is crucial to our success.

Dear Save Oceanside Sand Team,
We greeted the New Year with some amazingly large surf as well as the announcement of the RE:BEACH jury unanimous vote for the International Coastal Management’s (ICM) “Living Speed Bumps” concept. This concept includes two small headlands to stabilize sand on the back beach, coupled with an offshore artificial reef aimed at slowing down the nearshore erosive forces. Learn more here at Oceanside City News.

On behalf of the entire Save Oceanside Sand team, wishing you all a happy and healthy holiday season!  Together, we’ve accomplished quite a bit this past year. Our beach pop-up events provided amazing education and outreach which was also supported by our first year SOS High School intern program. It continued to raise awareness of the potential solutions to restore and retain sand and provided valuable information on RE:BEACH.

Two big events on Wednesday, December 13th for SOS FUNdraising and the final RE:BEACH workshop.
